The Family Impact Retreat is OEG’s flagship experience: an intergenerational retreat where young people and the adults who love them learn, work, explore and share meals together, with plenty of time apart built in. We launched the first Family Impact Retreat at Paicines Ranch in California in March 2026, with more than 40 participants across three generations. In summer 2027 we head to Jelsa, on the island of Hvar, Croatia, for two weeks of slow travel, real work and shared tables.

The whole family. The Youth Program is for young people ages 13 to 20, and mixed ages are part of the design. Companions are the adults who travel with a youth delegate: parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, godparents, family friends and adult siblings 19 and up who are not participating as youth delegates. Children ages 3 to 12 can join The Field School of Hvar, whose programming runs the same hours in collaboration with the OEG Youth Program. Enroll directly with Field School at fieldschoolhvar.org.

Each week follows a simple rhythm of time together and time apart: Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons and evenings: intergenerational workshops, art and artisan hours with professional fellows, nature and sport adventures, and dinner together Tuesday: Apprenticeship Day, when each youth delegate joins a local entrepreneur, chef, skipper, scientist, artist, architect or educator Thursday: Island Exploration Day for youth and companions, with OEG handling transportation, meals and logistics Weekends: unprogrammed time for boat days, beaches, Split or rest This is a general overview and may shift with the weather and other logistics.

Youth Program: $3,450 for two weeks or $1,950 for one week (June 19 to 26). Companions: $995 for two weeks or $595 for one week. Included during scheduled OEG programming: the listed activities, local transportation, youth snacks and dinners on every program day, Island Exploration Day meals, three shared family meals each week, and gratuities. Separate: flights, accommodations, family meals outside scheduled programming, and optional add-ons. OEG provides housing guidance and connections to trusted local drivers, chefs and boat captains.

Start with the short application on the Hvar 2027 page. A $500 deposit per youth delegate holds a place in the cohort, in the order applications arrive, and is due by November 15, 2026. The remaining balance is due by January 15, 2027. You can pay securely online by card. The founding cohort is capped so every young person is known by name, so we recommend applying early.

Families book their own accommodation. For simple, cozy places with an island feel, the easiest access to programming and a walk into town, we recommend The Fontana. Airbnbs and other resorts are wonderful too, but may need a bike or car to get around. Jelsa is a small coastal town and accommodations book up fast.

OEG is intentionally intergenerational. Companions join three shared family meals each week, the Monday, Wednesday and Friday Intergenerational Workshops, and Thursday Island Exploration Days, plus optional day trips curated for adults. Young people also get real independence and peer connection. Parents are partners in the process, not spectators, and families tell us they go home closer.

We design and host private Family Impact Retreats for schools, groups of families, foundations and teams, for groups of 15 to 150, with programming for every age, from little ones to grandparents. We work in places across the U.S., including Jackson Hole, WY; Napa Valley and coastal California; Southern California; Red River Gorge, KY; Vermont; the Hudson Valley, NY; and Aspen, CO. After a Family Impact Retreat, high school and college-age participants are invited to apply to the OEG Youth Advisory Board, led alongside our Youth Co-Founders, Julia Klahr and Finn Richards. Members meet virtually each quarter to help guide OEG’s direction and co-plan upcoming programs, gaining real experience in collaboration, governance and youth-led decision making.

An optional way to go deeper. An Impact OEG Family makes a $15,000 investment in OEG. It covers program fees for every member of the family and funds scholarships that bring local Croatian families, teachers and fellows into the program. Impact OEG Families are also invited to the OEG VIP x Maslina Resort party on Saturday, June 26, which falls within both the one-week and two-week stays. Becoming an Impact OEG Family is never a requirement to participate.

No. Retreats are one way in. OEG also offers 1:1 Executive Function and Impact Coaching, coaching for social impact leaders and center directors, and custom retreats for schools and groups.
